The Ultimate Guide to Napping at Athenian

Many students are not aware of the wide range of places that are available for students to rest in between classes, free periods, or afternoons on the Athenian campus. Many students don’t nap; for those who do take short naps, they tend to just nap where they happen to be.

As a senior who has spent three years at Athenian, I have lain on many, if not all, couches and cozy places on campus. I present the review of places to nap at Athenian, which are rated based on the comfort of the couches, the noise level in the room, privacy, and more. I hope that you can discover a few more locations for your own naps after reading.

Middlefield 2

Middlefield 2 has one of the best couches at Athenian. There are not one, but two sets of couches, which are both equally comfortable for napping.

One couch has its back facing the window. This couch is grey, which hides its dirtiness, inviting you to lie on it without caring if it will make your clothes dirty. The other couch is directly behind the door, so it provides people with enough privacy to nap, considering the door of Middlefield 2 is normally not opened much. This couch is yellow, one of the only lighter-colored couches on campus. Despite the light color that may expose how long it has not been washed, this couch is the softest and fluffiest couch on the entire campus. Rather than a fabric texture, this couch has a smooth texture, which brings comfort for your skin to rest on.

There are also soft seats against the classroom wall of Middlefield 2. They are small in size, but if they are arranged in a row, they become long enough to lie on. There are also cushions of different colors and designs spread throughout the room.

Middlefield 2 is not just for international students or boarders, but welcomes all students to take naps after a long and stressful day.

Senior Space

When seniors think of places to nap on campus, the senior space is probably the first place they think of because of the number of couches. The long arrangement of these couches makes them ideal for taking naps because you can stretch your legs out fully. Despite that, the couches are a bit hard. Your back will hurt after a nap that lasts longer than 15 minutes. The backs of these couches are also low, so you will also be leaning against the window when sitting straight upright.

The noise level in the senior space varies depending on the time. During school hours, many seniors hang out there, so it might be difficult for you to fall asleep. In the afternoon, though, when most students leave, only a few students sit there to wait for sports practice or other afternoon activities to start, making the space ideal for napping because the noise level is low.

Despite being an ideal resting location, the senior space is reserved for seniors. If you are not already, you should be looking forward to napping in this room when you become a senior.

Study Room in the Main Hall

The study room on the left side of the Main Hall has a deep-blue-colored couch that serves as a place to relax after a stressful studying session.

The couch is a size that is perfect enough to lie on with a student’s legs spread out. The cushion of the couch is soft and has a fairly high back, which allows you to sit comfortably in any position that you would like.

The study room presents great privacy because other students will likely not come in if they see someone using the room. Main Hall is a space that many students, staff, and faculty walk through, so people can see through the room’s glass walls. Don’t be shy: wave hi to familiar faces walking by. If the light in the study room is shut off, the room becomes even more ideal because you gain full privacy, inviting you to fall asleep very quickly. Don’t forget to set an alarm, though, because the quietness of the private room and the dim light will quickly turn your nap into a profound sleep.

Orchard A

If you have not had a class in this room, you may not have known this, but there is a couch in Orchard A. The couch looks just like any other couch at Athenian, with a rectangular shape and dark-colored fabric. If the classroom is not hosting a C&C or having a class, it is ideal for napping because it is on a quieter side of campus.

Library

The four chairs near Frenchie’s desk are especially comfortable because they are soft. Apart from these, there is no one particular space or room within the library that is the best for taking naps because all rooms and corners of the library are suitable. All tables spread out around the library serve as quiet places for you to rest your head on the table.

Appleside Patio

Located outside of the boarding dorms, this set of couches are the only outdoor couches. These couches share the advantages of dark color fabric, fluffy cushions, and a suitable length to lie on. They form a rectangular shape, allowing you to bring your friends with you to gather around, and to relax and talk with others simultaneously.

Apart from that, their location outdoors allows you to enjoy the sunshine and California weather. There are even umbrellas set up to protect you from sunburns if it gets too hot.

Whether you're recharging during breaks or resting after a day of classes, these nap spots are available to you at any time. Don’t hesitate to knock on the door or go outside to the comfiest couch for you.
